Stories at the Museum

This family friendly program features special educator-led readings of children's history books and a craft activity. Stories at the Museum programs are free and open to all ages. Programs take place every month on select Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.

Every Stories at the Museum program will include:

  • group reading of the selected history-themed picture book
  • a make-it-and-take-it craft activity related to the text

Each month the books will have a different theme.

August – Poetry Appreciation Month

  • August 5  – Visiting Langston
  • August 19 – Emily

September – Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month

  • September 2 – Waiting for Biblioburro
  • September 16 – My Name is Celia / Me llamo Celia: The Life of Celia Cruz

October – National Disability Awareness and Famous Virginians Month

  • October 7 – Helen Keller's Best Friend Belle
  • October 21 – Something to Tell the Grandcows

November – Native American Indian Heritage Month

  • November 4 – The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses
  • November 18 – Moonstick: The Seasons of the Sioux

December – Famous Americans Month

  • December 2 – Abe Lincoln's Dream
  • December 16 – Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride
