Human Resources & Payroll Coordinator (Full Time)

Division:  Operations & Finance

Supervisor:  Director of Finance & Accounting

Position:  The Virginia Historical Society seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Human Resources & Payroll Coordinator.  This individual serves as a part of the Finance & Accounting team within the Operations & Finance Division, and reports primarily to the Director of Finance & Accounting. The Human Resources & Payroll Coordinator will perform a variety of human resources functions as well as administer the VHS’s payroll and personnel benefits program. 

As part of the Coordinator’s HR responsibilities, they will create and maintain personnel records in accordance with applicable regulations and best practices as well as facilitate employee recruiting, hiring, and onboarding. The Coordinator will create and maintain personnel forms and the Society’s Employee Handbook.  The Coordinator will serve as the society’s primary employee ombudsman and will have a direct conduit to the President & CEO in order to advocate for staff, influence related policy, and assist in conflict resolution (when necessary). 

The Coordinator will manage the Society’s payroll system, and will ensure consistent and accurate issuance of wages as well as all related documentation and reporting. Similarly, the Coordinator will manage the administration of employee benefits, including health insurance plans and employee retirement. In support of the Finance & Accounting team, the Coordinator will also participating in other team projects and priorities, to possibly include reconciling balance sheets and processing of the VHS’s corporate credit card program.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with a certificate of Human Resource Management required.  Minimum of five years’ experience in an office environment processing payroll, administering employee benefit programs, documenting and resolving HR issues. Experience with ADP preferred.  Good computer aptitude and Microsoft Office software proficiency a must.  High level of proficiency in data entry and paperless filing experience is strongly desired.  Strong knowledge of current HR policies and best practices is essential. 

Salary: Salary commensurate with experience; benefits package.
